CRAZY CAT BOOK

In 1967, the 1st Radio Research Company, nicknamed “Crazy Cats,” was stationed at the naval facility at Cam Ranh Bay in June 1967. Why was an Army unit deployed with the Navy? Simple, the six P-2V Neptune planes were retired by the Navy and given to the Army. Where else were they going to get replacement parts? The Neptune aircraft were outfitted with antennas and were modified with pole antennas, and all were fitted with Signal Intelligence gathering systems and/or with radio jamming systems. They were the Army’s Spy in the Sky.
